Children
I have been observant to the year 2016's post lately we have received so much bad news and situations that we gave it a slogan "It only gets worse". We have one through so much and unlike every other year everything seemed a little more tense than normal and we to some it was a time where hope was lost.
I wrote my exams afterwards I then decided to go home and support my friend however afterwards i decided to go see my mom in Vryburg. I have not been listening to music just downloading alot of it and hoping I will listen to it during my travels. I was listening to Justin Bieber's new album and one the track titled "Children" made my ears itch a little more than usual. The song speaks of being visionaries and fighting for the young ones future. It speaks about how much we want to change the world for the young ones, being the generation and aspiration to fight for the future and the difference whether or not our hearts are big enough to to die for what we believe in.
This particular song reminded me of what has happened in South Africa during the course of this year;how the students were fighting for the ones who have not even made it to university not only because of the money being spent but how there are children with great potential to further their studies but do not have the means because of financial reasons. These students were willing to die for this course and get their points across as intellectuals however they tried to be civil and not resort to violence, it was not always so easy being outside such an amazing movement and yet have so little to to say. We as the students of the country, year 2016 have lost so many leaders who were willing to die for what they believed in. It was a tragic year filled with more heartbreak for others but we have learned so much as young people even if it was at the cost of our friends life. We have promised ourselves to keep fighting for what is right and to keep learning a better way to go forward. I salute those brave enough to stand up and make a difference in any way possible because this is for our brothers and sisters in their respective residences and situations.
I ceratily do feel like when Justin Bieber wrote this song it was specifically meant for us, it has such a powerful message that is a reminder of a conversation I had with a friend back in Bloemfontein about how much we are afraid to dream and make a difference. We are so comfortable with being part of the crowd because it limits us from failing. We live in a society where kids are no longer able to dream because we shatter our kids dreams at a very young age, instead of helping these kids try and regain their confidence we kill them before they start therefore we are very grateful to fallen heroes who have been able to keep their dreams and spirit to fight alive. You will never be forgotten for your bravery and will to keep going and doing what is right.
